C Band Satellite Services
VSAT systems may operate using various industry frequencies such as C-Band, Ku-Band, Ka-Band as well as X-Band. However, most commercial VSAT networks use the C-Band and Ku-Band frequencies.
While Ku-Band frequency ranges from 10.9 – 12.7 GHz for downlink and 13.7 – 14.5 GHz for uplink, C-Band frequency range from 3.6 - 4.2 GHz for receive and 5.8 – 6.4 GHz for transmit.
In comparison to Ku-Band service, C band’s lower frequency is less affected by weather conditions such as rainfall, and therefore provides higher reliability in tropical regions. C-band with its lower frequency allows operation regardless of weather conditions, especially under rainy or foggy condition and therefore recommended for tropical regions with heavy rainfall. Of course, the trade off is However, C-Band VSAT requires larger size antennas, starting from 1.8 meter and above to operate which adds to the initial equipment cost.
